For Shame, Keith. Where is your tingly leg now?

The media has been frothing with excitement recently over McCain's VP Sarah Palin. Some publicity has been good and some has been bad.

ST. PAUL (Reuters) - Sarah Palin broke a five-day silence and talked her way into Republican hearts and minds. The Alaska governor plucked from relative obscurity by John McCain to be his vice presidential running mate for the Nov. 4 election pressed all the right buttons in a much anticipated speech on Wednesday at the party's national convention.
"She looked into the liberal heart and made it bleed," said Tobias Buck, a delegate from Indiana.
The partisan crowd was electrified by her repeated pointed attacks on Democratic presidential nominee
Barack Obama, which capped a night of invective aimed at him by party heavyweights such as former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Palin, 44, had been in seclusion since her nomination last week as disclosures about her family swirled around the McCain campaign.
In her speech, she reminded the crowd of Obama's comments at a San Francisco fundraiser in April about bitter small-town residents.
"We don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening," Palin said.
Republicans were thrilled.
"I thought her speech was excellent. She looks like a beauty queen but she's no cupcake," said Anne Conrad, a delegate from Tennessee

If there's one thing I don't get about the media's coverage of Sarah Palin, it's the constant reiteration of the point that she will somehow be unfit to take the job of the VP because of her five children.

Seriously? I already talked about this in one of my last blogs (http://unlibertaire.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah-palins-experience.html), but for some reason the media still keeps hammering the point (maybe it's because there aren't any top media execs in the group of roughly 2.5 people who look at this blog).

It seems like those who make those personal attacks are afraid of something. It's painfully obvious that those who attack her without shame have a vested interest in the downfall of the Republican ticket.

Sarah Palin is not a cupcake.

The RNC

John McCain has recently decided that the first day of the RNC is essentiall being canceled--with only the necessary procedures to nominate him being done. All of the speeches (and more importantly to me, all the musical acts) have been canceled because of the recent landfall of Hurricane Gustav.

Even though the hurricane is a tragedy, it's nice to know one good thing did come out of it for the republicans.

For reasons why the canceling of musical acts at the RNC is definitely a boost, check 2 blog posts down or click here: http://unlibertaire.blogspot.com/2008/08/this-just-in-republicans-lack-oomph.html

Let's hope the trend continues for the rest of the convention.

Sarah Palin's experience and genes

I've been very annoyed recently with people who don't like Sarah Palin. The three main issues of concern regarding her suitability as a VP are apparently

1. She doesn't have enough experience

2. She won't be able to govern effectively because of her children

3. Her daughter is pregnant.

The third is irrelavent, despite the efforts of some to make it relevant. Well, it's not completely irrelevant. It's relevant to me, because her daughter is CRAZY hot, and she plans to "marry the 18 year old father."

The second is also stupid. It's funny that the same people who have opposed "
traditional roles of women" as barefoot homemakers of the "go make me a sandwich, woman!" variety are now the same people making the accusation that she can't be a professional and take care of her household at the same time.

She's the epitomy of awesome feminism. She hunts, guts elk (really), plays football and basketball, governs a state and has five kids, one of whom has Down syndrome, and one of whom is hot (had to mention it again). Somehow she strikes me as someone who can handle authority and family.

The first objection is also kinda stupid. True, she's only been Governer a short time, and was mayor of a fairly small city before being elected, but she has something Barack Obama (who the majority of her detractors support) doesn't have: Actual accomplishments. She has drastically reduced size of government in Alaska and eliminated pork and wasteful spending on a massive level. Barack Obama has spent most of his term as Senator either on a book tour or running for president.

Also, Sarah Palin's experience as Governer is more suited to a position of leadership than experience as a Senator. The VP's job is to preside over the Senate (which is purely traditional and symbolic and doesn't really matter) and help shape the President's policies, which suits her particular strengths to a tee.

To summarize:

-Sarah Palin's daughter is crazy hot

-She's awesome and feminist

-Her daughter is also crazy hot.
